Choosing SPC Flooring With Attached Pad

Shop SPC flooring with attached pad and compare backing materials, overall thickness, wear layers and plank sizes. Check the approved subfloor and vapor-protection requirements before choosing your rigid-core floor.

Understand what the attached pad provides

Factory-attached backing forms part of the flooring system. Its material and thickness can influence underfoot feel and sound, but those characteristics depend on the complete construction and installation. Compare the product's backing specification and any relevant test documentation. An attached pad does not automatically satisfy an apartment association's acoustic requirements.

Use the approved underlayment system

Check whether the stated overall thickness includes the pad. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the substrate, especially over concrete. Separate vapor protection may still be required. Do not add a second soft underlayment unless it is permitted, because excess movement can affect support at the locking joints.

Questions before ordering

Does attached padding replace a vapor barrier?

Not automatically. Padding and vapor control serve different purposes. Follow the flooring instructions and the requirements for the actual subfloor.

Will an attached pad make the floor soundproof?

No. Sound performance depends on the full floor and ceiling assembly. Request relevant test details if you must meet a building or association requirement.
